Who is Aunt Pat?
Janet Norris appreciated Kim Huffman's email about Larry and Aunt Pat The Huffman's since the term Aunt Pat is a bit of mystery to her childhood friends. I will post Aunt Pat stories on this page, or just descriptions of why Aunt Pat is Aunt Pat to her Colorado Community.

I have been laboring long and hard over Pat. I wanted to call Larry
immediately, although I knew he was in over his head and plus the fact we
have had some differences the past few years. All I could do was pray for
Pat and Larry with the hopes of seeing her back in the county soon. Such has
not been the case.
I ran into KK the other night at the Summit Middle School and she
told me of this web site. (Nice job, Phil.) I scrolled through the site and
it breaks my heart to see Aunt Pat so helpless. I will continue to monitor
her progress from here on.
I wanted to shed some light on the Aunt Pat story. I am looking up
on my wall and there's a picture of the Copper Lift Crew in 1981 with Pat
MacLeod sitting in the front row in front of Maurice, the snowmobile. Pat
was a supervisor for the ticket checkers back then. We gave Pat the nick
name "Auntie Em" because she had the demeanor of Auntie Em of the Wizard of
Oz. We used to kid her about "how anyone could be so pure and innocent and
be in the ski biz". Eventually, it evolved to Aunt Pat, especially after
leaving Copper.
I hope this turns out like the Wizard of Oz - Pat waking up, at
home. -Boots.
I see that this should be a story, alas a story teller I am not. My memory of
this is that we called Larry 'Uncle Larry' before he ever knew Pat. So when
Pat became Larry's main squeeze what else could we call Uncle Larry's lady
but, 'Aunt Pat'? I think Mickey Johnson had something to do with all this.
Mickey is the guy who got Pat and Larry together. Mickey was our buddy who
was killed in an avalanche at Copper in 1984. I'm trying to find the great
photo I have of Mickey and Pat together at one of the golf parties the Patrol
had at Green Gables. Aaahh the memories!!!
I'm sure Buzzard or Duffy could add some fun to this story in our lives!
All my love, not an hour goes by without thoughts and love of you both Pat
and Larry,
KK
naaaahhhh-we(highschool buddies) always called her "cloudy" and when i
asked what was up with this "new" name the explanation was just that
since pat was marrying an OLDER ( but distiguished) man she felt she
needed to add some maturity to her image so larry wouldnt feel sooooooo
old- or i think thats what she told me it meant!it made perfect sense to
me since im her same age... what else could it have meant!?! julie

Aunt Pat is Aunt Pat to me for a lot of reasons. I can remember Larry referring to Aunt Pat when complementing her, without doing so directly, for an act of generosity or gentleness. The name seemed to fit. A chance to have lunch with Pat, or a cup of coffee, while passing their house has been a long tradition. When I travelled to Mille Lacs several times on UpSki expeditions I made it a point to go to the cafe in Malmo where Pat, as a child, had sold worms and worked in the kitchen (in that order) .

Aunt Pat and Uncle Larry support all of our dreams, UpSki in my case, and do so with the kindness that normally would only come from someone stuck to you by a blood relationship.
