Pat Schmidt and the 2003 Step by Step team

Pike's Peak Challenge 2003 We made it!!!

We made it!!! Larry Schmidt, Pat Mac Leod Schmidt, Pam Cochran, Alan Rex, Mike Rex, Shauna Fisher Bocksch, Phil Huff, Kristie Huff, Rob Mitchell, Betsy Cuthbertson, Pat Schleff, Nikki Schleff and Esther Garrison all made it.

We were on Barr Trail at 5:00 am. The name Step by Step was appropriate. The weather was drizzly and hiking was a little tough for the first 3 miles.

Then we were on a stroll in the park. After the 4 mile stroll we were at Barr Camp an elevation of 10,200 feet.

The next 3 miles were rocky. We climbed to the A-Frame shelter at 11,700 feet. Step by Step we approached the 2 mile mark at 12,700 feet. The weather was cloudy, foggy and threatened snow.

1 mile and 16 Golden Stairs arrived at 13,800 feet. At our snail pace the snow started making it VERY hard and tough. It was an emotional finish. This special event benefiting the Brain Injury Association of Colorado ended at 14,110 feet. Our journey took us 7,400 vertical feet covering 13.5 miles in 10 hours.

2004 make sure you're ready.
