UPDATE FOR SUNDAY 10/31 FROM DEBRA
Well...yeah...I think...and so our conversations go. Pat has definate things to say and sometimes I can hear enough to correctly guess the gist of her comments. She is so patient with me!

We had a fun afternoon. After a nap and a visit (she remembered that Pooh Bishop visited yesterday, and Larry's childhood friend Ed too) we went down to the rec room, tried their caramel apple pizza, talked to some of the volunteers, and then 4 of us played a long game of Uno. Pat came in second. She did great on matching the colors.  Laughed when we gave "reverse" cards to each other four times in a row.

Alan and Jorden Rex visited in time for dinner with Pat. Pat was pleased to see that she and Jorden were wearing identical white Converse All-Star shoes. She smiled broadly when she heard that Alan went to a debate party dressed as Tarzan. And she giggled loudly when Dan called her on the phone. The moment she heard the phone ring she started wheeling towards it, hoping it was Dan because she'd missed his call earlier.

I received a note from our cousin Pam tonight. I thought this was neat: the schoolchildren (600 of them!) at Pam's church school in Florida continue to include Pat in their morning prayers. The PLS doesn't stop!

Monday will be a full day for Pat. Lots of classes. She's ready! Love to all, Debra

UPDATE FOR MONDAY 11/1 FROM DEBRA

I missed Pat today. I went to visit and attend some classes with her but she had gone out for an eye exam. so much for planning. We haven't heard the results of the exam. Yesterday (when we were playing Uno) she was squinting her right eye even more than usual and said "yes" when I asked her if she was seeing double. When we switched seats so she could use her left eye more it seemed to help.

Larry said she had a touch of the flu this evening and was going to bed early. Earlier they had gone down to the rec room and made a cover for a recipe book she's making. there is always something going on there! If you can catch her in her room, between 6 and 7 p.m. is a good time for a short chat on the phone with Pat. She likes to hear from people and does very well understanding and answering questions that need only simple replies. Now's your chance to practice monologue humor!

Today is All Saint's Day... a day to remember and honor loved ones who have "passed over to the other side." It's a good day to tell a favorite child about your favorite great-aunt or uncle or grandparent. One of my favorite stories took place just a few years ago. Pat and I were reminiscing about our fathers, both of whom died years ago. When the tears started to flow we wondered if there would ever be a time when we wouldn't tear-up over our dads. Pat thought not, because she remembered our grandma, 88 years old at the time (I think), laying in bed, close to death and fingering a quilt handmade by her mother. Grandma looked up at Pat and said, "I sure miss my ma!" It made us laugh. I think we found it reassuring that time won't erase those bonds of love.

And distance doesn't lessen your bonds to Pat either. Debra
