UPDATE FOR WEDNESDAY 11/10 FROM KAY

Kay here, after Wednesday’s phone conversation with Pat and Larry.

“How are you?” Pat asked when she answered the phone tonight. When I asked how her visit with the dentist was, she explained carefully enough for me to pick up some recognizable words. She is the type to floss twice a day so it must have felt really good to have her teeth cleaned. She also told me about speech class. The words I got were word and slow. When I asked Pat if she had to say her words slowly with Jennifer, she said yes. I asked if she could tell me what day it is today. She said, “It is Wennnnnn . . sss . . . d . . . yeah.”

Tuesday’s field trip was a lunch outing to Country Buffet. I believe Laura and Aaron went with Pat (9 patients and their “spotters” in all), and Larry met them there. It went extremely well. Larry is convinced Pat was reading the menu. She circled what she wanted and Larry checked with her to make sure that was what she wanted. We can only imagine what it must feel like to go on such an outing after being in a hospital for so long. Friend Melinda VanGundy from Summit County happened to be there for lunch Tuesday also, so Pat and Melinda had a good talk.

After lunch it was back on the bus, and back to hospital campus to Friendship House to make cookies and play games. Everyone was pretty tired after such a full day, so naptime was a big hit, too. Get out of bed for supper, and then go back to bed. When I called at 7 PM, Pat was already asleep again. Sounds like some felines I know.

Another full day today, including walking a full flight of stairs during physical therapy. Larry says Pat is anxious to read anything and does well with anything in large enough print. She was reading her guest book as Larry told me of the events of yesterday and today. Wednesday’s supper – a real treat for Pat – hamburger and French fries! Hey, that’s a treat for anyone.

Larry finds it easy to come down to Denver everyday to such a smiling face! He will be in early Thursday AM to attend PT. Scheduled outside (!) Olympic events will include getting in and out of a car, getting up and down the sidewalk, and more stair climbing.

The Greens from Summit County were at Craig visiting their son who was in a car accident. Pat was able to tell them she was from Summit County. More words are coming every day.

Pastor Rolf who married Pat and Larry stopped today for a visit.

I’m certainly glad I’m not being graded on this. The paragraph structure must be an English teacher’s nightmare.

Blessings to all of the PLSers, Kay
