WEEKEND UPDATE 11/20 FROM LARRY VIA KAY
Kay here after a phone update from Larry. It was a busy, great weekend. Pat and Larry helped paint some acoustic ceiling tiles! An artist had designed a ceiling mural and each tile is part of the mosaic. Patients, staff, and volunteers can already see the results of their work on the ceiling of the exercise room. There will be murals in the halls and the cafeteria, too.

Pat used her walker most of the weekend, with the exception of a shopping trip in her wheelchair doing consumer research on gas fireplaces. Pat chose to attend church in the lovely little chapel at the hospital this morning. Larry said it's the only service he's ever been to that the collection plate wasn't passed.

Due to a probable bladder infection, Pat has been on antibiotics. She is improving, so will receive them for just another 3 days if the next lab test is OK. Her white cell count is a little high.

Minnesota friend Julie Sell Perlinger will arrive in Denver Wednesday. Pat and Larry will go to Debra's (the Engquist-Rex) home for Thanksgiving dinner. Cousins David and Dolores Feck and their daughters will also be at Deb's Thursday. Back to classes on Friday. We will all look forward to an amazing update from everyone. No pressure, but the rest of the world is depending on you.

Larry is convinced that Pat is processing everything. She reads the updates and has been looking at the photos on the web site. She reads her menus for every meal and circles what she wants. If Larry checks to see, she never changes her mind, so he believes she is understanding what she reads. I have found her vocabulary to be increasing. Every time I talk to her I hear new words. I'm not understanding the sentence structure, but she did say tonight, "We hope to . . . word salad . . ."

When Larry left for the mountains tonight, Pat was watching "The Wizard of Oz." I bet she'd like to click her ruby slippers 3 times right now.

Love to all of the PLSers, Kay

Tom Bray had his usual short but interesting conversation with Pat tonight. When he told her about the stained glass piece we are making for her bedroom, she said, "Oh, boy!"
