UPDATE FOR SUNDAY 11/7 FROM MARK & DEB

I

This is the BBQ report from Craig Rehab...(with Mark dictating and Deb typing - it goes faster that way.)

After a beautiful morning at Deb's church... with Alan (Jorden remained in bed) and another beautiful day in Denver and a short trip in the mountains, Deb, Alan, Jorden and I all went to Craig for a BBQ. At Deb's church I asked some lady where to get some trout and she told me to go up in the mts and catch some... but we found some fresh trout at a store. So for the BBQ we had shrimp kabobs, Rainbow trout and boneless trout.

Pat took a nap from 3-5 p.m., we showed up and woke her. Larry and Cindy (a friend from San Juan Islands) returned after we arrived and we all went down to the Friendship House across the street from Pat's room, where we had a great BBQ dinner together. Friendship House looks exactly like the party room of a nice condo with grills, patio, big screen TV, LR, couches, table, kitchen etc.

Patty was in top form tonight. She was very talkative, alert, extremely sharp, and always with a sense of humor. She was teasing Alan by pulling on his ponytail. We got a phone call from Dan and I lost track of my Coke can. When I switched chairs to another side of the table she noticed my pop can and pushed it back over to me. Oh by the way, yesterday she noticed some gifts at the receptionist's desk that I had forgotten and left behind. She pointed to them out to Larry and he realized they were the gifts they had given to me yesterday to give to friends back in Kauai. One was an irrigation timer for me. She's very observant now. That was alertness. She's already passed me up in that department.

Back at the BBQ, we were reminiscing about Larry and Pat's trip to Kauai last May. I thought we had a fish dinner on the beach, but Pat quickly corrected me on that with a decisive "NO! No." And then I asked her, "Did we have the dinner at my house then or what?" She nodded her head up and down and said, "yes." And I said, "Let me check with Larry on that." Larry was outside at the time, but I asked him later and Pat was right. (It was some other people who visited soon after.)

She really enjoyed the dinner and ate plenty of shrimp kabobs and also some trout. She followed the conversation and you could tell she understood everything we were saying. She was right with us the whole way. Later when we were cleaning up she noticed a chair out of place. Without saying anything, she wheeled over and pushed the chair back to where it belonged, straightening up things just like the rest of us.

In summary, it was a great evening with Pat and Larry. And it was their first BBQ since August. I think Pat enjoyed the family atmosphere of Friendship House more than we ever expected. That's all for now... it's 11:45p.m. and Deb's going to die.

Aloha, Mark and Deb
