SATURDAY 10/2 UPDATE FROM DEBRA
It was a quiet morning with Pat. She had a better day than yesterday, a little more alert. Aaron (my son) and Laura (his girlfriend) were with her in the morning, then Aaron and I stayed until 1:20 or so. I haven't spoken with anyone else today so my news will have to do for now. Pat sat up in her chair for a long time, listened to her mom say hi over the phone, dozed a little, listened to me ramble on about her house, my kids, Aunt Myrt's surgery. Then as we discussed whether she might be tired and enjoy going back to bed, she perked up. Sat up straight, smiled, followed the conversation it seemed. When we sent the nurses back out so she could "visit" a while longer, she promptly dozed off again. As we were leaving I reminded her that today and tomorrow would be good rest days because, as Larry says, Monday boot camp begins. At that she smiled broadly.

She's doing well physically. The feed peg is fine. Not much to report really. The nurses express confidence that a lot can happen in a short amount of time.

A reminder to those who are interested: BIA Colorado (brain injury association) is having a conference next week at the Marriott in Vail. It begins Thursday evening and ends Sat p.m. Check out the website: http://www.biacolorado.org/state.htm#Brain for details. Some of the featured speakers look great. I read the book by Dr. Claudia Osborn who will be speaking Sat p.m. It was both encouraging and sobering. (Craig Hospital, by the way, is NOT depressing. It seems to be an invigorating and fun place.) I will be out of town this week and have to work next Sat, so I don't think it's likely I will get to much of the conference, if any.

I noticed a spelling error in my last update.... actually there have been several: The great symphony composer is Haydn, not Hayden. The organizers of the Patty Mac Twister Open are Jim Spenst, and Rick Fretland, not Spence and Fritland. I think God is humbling me for I have been an ungracious stickler for spelling, much to my children's dismay at times. Now they know more than I do.

Check out the info on the tourney on Pat's web site. Perhaps some of you would be nterested in a little background. I wasn't aware that there is no long term care facility in Summit County. Hopefully Pat will recover to an extent that that is not an issue for her, but for others it is important. The funds raised by the tourney will be put into an AuntPat fund with a non-profit health care organization in Summit county. They will be held until Pat's needs are determined. If she does not need the funds, they will be used towards the construction of a care facility. Right now a search is already underway to purchase land for the facility.

Looking forward to a good time on Oct 10th! PLS - Debra
