Here's Doc Weintraub, her physician.

His orders: not too much stimulation for the time being; people who want to visit will need to be patient. The time to help Pat will come.

He also says her current restlessness is a healthy sign and a stage that the brain is going through.

As she continues to heal, she will calm down.

10/7/99 Message From Dan

I mentioned that Pat was sort of stand-off-ish today. But you never know.

When I was getting ready to leave, I sat down on the bed beside her and said that I had to leave and go home, but that I was hoping to be back next week. As I said that, she took my hand and slowly pulled it up to her face. Then she kissed my fingertips.

I think she just answered the door.

THURSDAY 10/7 UPDATE FROM BILL & LARRY

Hello everyone, Bill the transcriptionist here with Larry on the Cell phone as he travels back up canyon to Summit Co.

Larry reports that the colors are in full tilt, and a dusting of snow in the peaks.... sounds wonderfully familiar.

Highlights of the day for Pat are a smaller trachea tube, spoon feeding success, fewer naps during class, and a full day of sitting up in the big chair. The smaller trachea tube, a "Jackson # 6" has been in for 24hrs. or so and already it's effects are being appreciated by our dear Pat. She seems to have less discomfort and has allowed the speech therapist to work with Pat in the swallowing of food dept.

The smaller tube either has a smaller retaining device inside the trachea or does not have one at all and frees up all that area to move air and food around. They began by spoon feeding her some applesauce. First she would open wide but did not put together the closing of her mouth around the spoon to finish the job. After a couple tries though she found the control to close her jaw and pinch the spoon between lip and tongue and viola... applesauce slam dunk... Guess the speech therapist is involved here as all this is preliminary to helping with speech training. She works with Pat's head and neck mobility, jaw and mouth muscles, and breathing. Larry said that just in the last few hours when Pat would yawn she made some nice yawning sounds along with. I'm sure she'll soon be ordering her applesauce with a touch of Ice Cream.... Each day Pat is getting stronger and able to stay active for longer periods of time.

Today she took a nap in her second class instead of the first as was the case yesterday. This is the last week of taking breaks between sessions and full-day activities begin on Monday... Her schedule will be from 9-4pm with an assortment of therapists and projects to tend to. Pats bladder infection has been receiving medication and that will be complete tomorrow.

Hello to Sue Hasagawa,, ( John you too) who was visiting today and was witness to a number of naps in the chair. Also we heard Kevin Keble was around for a quick hello. Larry's sister Patty comes in from Illinois on Sat. and will be a feature player in the MacTwister Open! Aaron and Laura who have been a big help and constant Pat companion are on break today and we love them... Good luck to all Golfers this weekend !! You too Phil !! You're lucky to have Ms. Wiggles there to help you find those wild one's. Someone take Phil's phone from him at signup too please... hahah ahaa.

Good to be saying hello to you all and I miss the Patricia McSchmidt very much.

FORE ever, Bill
