Debra Engquist

Dear friends and family of Pat,

Like all of you, my emotions have been running the gamut. The prayers and best wishes have been real and comforting. The website is another great gift.

I want to share with you an image with which one of my friends comforted me. (This is from 1 Kings) Elijah was high on a mountain seeking God. Elijah stayed in a cave waiting and waiting. A whirlwind came, but God was not in the whirlwind. An earthquake came, but God was not in the earthquake. A fire came, but God was not in the fire. It was when Elijah "heard" the sound of sheer silence that he wrapped his face and stood at the entrance to the cave and heard the voice of God. God is with Pat in her silence, speaking to her, instructing her, loving her. Our prayer is that she comes back to us in all her wonderful liveliness. She has always been an inspiring witness to living life to its best and fullest.

My husband and I have three sons who for years now have considered Pat and Larry as their "trophy parents". (Pat and Larry are a lot more fun and have a lot more cool toys than Mike and I.) Pat has always tried to balance my cautioning the boys to "be careful" with her own version that would go something like, "Alright boys, have fun skiing today and be sure to go real fast on the corners and take lots of chances!" I wish every child had positivie trophy parents like Pat and Larry. What a difference they have made, and will continue to make!, in our lives.

Our cousins have been cheering C'MON PAT! C'MON PAT!

Love to all, Debra

KK's question 8/18. Larry this is from Pat's initial reaction to when
you shaved your head. Remember!!

Dear Betsy... boy I hate being here in Denver right now... not focusing
on my job very well. As for Pat's head; only the top part of her head
was shaved to attach a monitor and small drain to it. there is longer
hair around it, though some of it got chopped off in the hurry to get at
her
head. Looking at her lying there one doesn't see or notice the patch
missing hair. She looks pretty. Her face is fairly normal, especially
now
that the swelling is subsiding. She always told me that looking pretty
is all that counts on the slopes, so she's being true to form. I'm
going to
tease her to no end about going through a tornado and still looking
pretty. Only Pat! love, Debra
