We are trying to get a better method of getting out information. Larry wants to thank everyone for the calls to his house phone. He is calling as many people as possible. And you know Larry is worried about not personally talking to everyone. They are logging calls and keeping a diary for Pat.
Larry spent a good part of the morning at the tent going through product and taking pictures of all of the damage. Unfortunately he has to think about insurance, etc..
There have been many medical questions about Pats condition and I will try to answer some of them here.
The initial neurological exam in the emergency room Pat got a 6. The scale goes from 3 to 15. Dan Moroz explained this to me as the Glasgow coma scale, he read through the scale to me and it sounded OK. Remember Pat was unconscious when admitted. The drugs to induce the coma are the same as you would have during surgery. This means that Pat is breathing through a respirator and is in chemically paralyzed. This is to protect Pat's brain until the swelling subsides. Every activity exacerbates the brain activity. Even in the unconscious level the brain is trying to move limbs and remove tubes. Pat will have no memory of this.
This entire drill is to keep the balance between ICP ( inner cranial pressure) and blood pressure. She needs lots of oxygen to the brain as is is still swelled up. This balance has so far been the biggest hurdle for Pat.- Getting past the swelling- is more of a natural body reaction and the body has to have time to make the bruise go away. The sedation is linked to the brain swelling. There will not be a neurological exam until after the swelling goes down.
At this time they will hope to start weaning Pat from the heavy sedation on Tuesday. Let's all pray that she can stay stable enough. As Deb said today " we don't want to rush them on that." The care at University Hospital is outstanding. Please forward any medical questions and I will attempt to field them.
Larry continues to say thet he doesn't want any visitors. He is looking forward to a little quiet. Please excuse my lag in response today. Mike had back surgery on Tuesday and is trying to do to many things, I had to run interference all day. Please keep up the prayers and love focused towards SLC and to this very special lady, our Aunt Pat !
