Larry and Kay left Park City at 5a.m. to be with Pat when the doctors made their rounds. Since this is a teaching hospital there were several people in the room. Doctor Abtin did the exam.
Pat opened her eyes in response to what we have named the "Larry Bird" call, the special whistle that would bring her from the other side of the grocery store. She was not focusing but there was some slight movement in her eyes when the doc asked her to look at his finger.
She wiggled her toes but did not withdrawn her feet upon stimulation. Her lungs sound good, stitches have been removed from her leg cuts. Dr. York told the group that her exams have improved slightly over the last few days.
Paul, the very caring and gentle night nurse, had her new blue high-up Converse all-stars on her feet for 8 hours last night to prevent foot drop. We bought a men's 8 1/2 to accommodate the swelling and Paul says they are a good fit. We were told by the day nurse that Pat needed quiet and no stimulation today, so Scarlett was not able to read to her as we had planned. We decided it would be best to leave Pat alone to rest, so Larry, Chip, and Buzz went golfing. Scarlett and Kay did a few errands then went back to the Jones's condo for a much needed nap.
While on the golf course received a call from Marta, the day nurse, that Pat was opening her eyes, tracking some, and exhibiting some purposeful movement. Now we're in high spirits hoping we don't have a set back.
Her liver and pancreas have been working overtime to process all the drugs. Right now they have her on a minimum of sedatives. Marta's description for today was "significant improvement".
