| Hello again, Good afternoon you Pat fanatic's... It's almost 5 PM on the 17th and Pat is sleeping soundly. After yesterday's outings and another walk down the hallway this morning at 10 AM, she's beat. He had her up for another short walk about an hour ago but decided that just sitting up was enough for today. I'm not surprised as the last few days have been very busy for her and it just feels like R&R today. So we all joined in. Brigitte came in just in time for Pat's walk and then a little visit. Brigitte is feeling much better today and was busy with coordinating her travel plans to Denver, Summit Co. and beyond. We received the tape Bob Winsett made with the classical music and the recordings of folks who had a message for Pat. This was a great idea and it really got Pat's attention. Reiner was first up, speaking German and translating as he went. Brigitte was here too and both she and Pat had big smiles. I heard KK, Betsy, Mike, and Phils message, then had to leave for an errand of my own. Pat was very content and happy to hear from all of you this way. I read her all the Emails you have sent me the last 5 days earlier in the day over coffee. We worked on her head alignment and was able to have her relax the neck muscle enough to allow the light pressure I was holding on the opposite side to move her head to midline. While we were doing this she kept trying to sit up. I told her those were some good looking "crunches" and that the Pat AB's video will be out soon. I just checked the container the chest tube is draining into and it looks like only 15 ml of fluid has accumulated in the last 24 hrs. Least amount in that period of time so far. She has gone through a couple bags of food into her stomach too and without any outward signs of trouble. All other systems related to this area are in GOOD working order too if you know what I mean... Got to love that...haahahahaah Other vitals as she is resting this moment are, Respiration's 22 and very steady. Her breathing is strong and has been coughing up less each day. Along with this she is moving her mouth more and more in attempts to yawn and exercise her lips. Pulse 112, and BP 111/62 and blood oxygen is at 98... The respiratory therapist just came in and had Pat work on breathing deeply. He disconnected the Humidity feed to Pat's trachea tube( she has been breathing room air for a couple days now with only some added moisture), and hooked up a device for some PEP therapy ( Positive Expiratory Pressure) It has a one way valve and a cylinder with a floating blue ball to show how much air Pat moves on exhaling. When she was asked, Pat began a very rhythmic deep breathing cycle to push the blue ball to the top. I had not seen them come in for this before and was told that this is the third time now and she has done equally as well. She can see the ball and knows what it takes to make it all happen....another great thing. It's been a good week and has gone by extremely fast. I can't begin to tell you how rewarding it has been to be here and be of some help to my good friends. Larry is doing well and holding down all the forts. He squeezes in his business at every cell phone opportunity and I've gotten used to listening to him apparently talking to him self when he has the "ear bud" on. I'm sure we looked pretty geeky sitting side by side traveling up canyon both with cell phone head sets on talking at the same time. What have we become? It's all Phil's fault...the original " I can talk on my phone and do anything guy". If you come this way try Einstein Bagel's just below the hospital. For coffee there is the Salt Lake Roasting café down on 400 S and 300 E, and they now know how to pour a proper Macchatio. We ran into Fred Jones by chance when we stopped in for lunch at a street side restaurant downtown yesterday and had a chance to visit and thank him for the use of his Park City condo. Thanks also to Kim and Karen for a great BBQ last night and the very large bowl of pie and ice cream. I leave for home tomorrow at 10 AM so I will most likely not email you all until I have a chance to talk to Larry and see how the day went and get you all something for the weekend. Love you all and look forward to seeing you around and with Pat again someday. Bill I have to add this last story. Just before I sent the last update I came around to the side that Pat can see me on and sat down to read the Email to her. It was pretty emotional when I read the part about having to leave and what a time we have had here. The whole time she held her eyes very wide and was fixed on me directly. When I began to cry as I told her good-by she reached out across the bed to take my hand. When I gave it to her and we held hands for a minute I could swear her eyes glossed over as if to say good by and I love you too...... See you all, Bill |
