| Debra again, typing an update from Larry and Aaron, I'll recap the day in a minute, but first let me tell you about... Copper Mt. Golf Course Sunday, October 10, 12noon (it's the last day of their season) It's happening and we're hoping you can be a part of it, even on such short notice. Jim Spenst and Rick Fretland put their heads together and came up with the program. Team (of 4) entry fee will be $300. Jim graciously volunteered Marcia Spenst to be the chairperson! There will be an awards cocktail party at Maddy B's, new pub at the bottom of the Super B chairlift at Copper. It will probably get started around 4:30 p.m. with or without the people who are golfing. More details will follow. By Monday (after Marcia hears about her new role?) we hope to have a team entry phone number or e-mail address. Singles can sign up too, and somehow somewhere they will become part of a team. It's magic. There are several ways even non-golfers can help the event along: Artists can submit entries for a Tornado Pat and or a Patty Mac Twister Open logo(s). If you can send them via the "auntpat" list-serve that would be cool. Or mail them to Larry Schmidt at my address: 11930 W. 76th Drive, Arvada, CO 80005. We're hoping to have some logo'd golf shirts for all entrants. A prize committee is needed. Prizes too. If you can't be there, direct contributions can be sent to the "Aunt Pat Tornado Fund". It is Larry's hope that Pat will get better quickly and not need any of this money. If this is the case, the funds will be used to help with the construction of an extended care facility. Please mail donations to: First Bank of Silverthorne P.O. Box 347 Silverthorne, CO 80498 970/468-8000 Donations can be made to any First Bank in Colorado. Other ideas and suggestions are most welcome! Obviously, this is a quick set-up, but well worth it in terms of fun and support for Pat. | OK, news of the day, via phone conversation with Aaron Rex and Larry: Yesterday late afternoon they were able to take her outside again. She liked that, sat in the sun with her hat and glasses on. Relaxed with her eyes closed. Coming in again, she sat in her chair facing to see out the window. She put her feet on a ledge and pushed off, making herself roll backward. Tim accused her of wanting to get back in bed and she smiled. They rolled her back and she repeated the manuever 10 times. She slept well! Aaron spent the morning with her (Larry was bringing Tim to the airport) and he received a good smile when he walked in. At some point he started to leave to get a coke and she frowned in a big way so he said, "Don't worry I'll be right back" and she lightened up. Aaron was surprised at how strong she is, she held his hand very hard. He also noted that this morning she was noticeably better than even yesterday, moving more, handling the right side better and so forth. Every day something gets a little better. The therapist was impressed too, very optimistic about physical recovery. At one point Pat almost sat up by herself...raising her shoulders way up off the bed. Tentative plans are still that next week she will be in Denver. Factors include bed availability at Swedish Hospital, air transport availability, and continued ability to fight off any weekend bugs. This afternoon she had a neck massage. Julie the therapist also commented on improvement in the last 24 hours. And the best news yet: this afternoon she pulled a little pout on Larry. He thinks she's showing more emotions, and wonders if she was mad about something (being gone in the a.m?) She wouldn't look at Larry or smile for a long time. But before he left for the night she again put her hand up to pull him in for a kiss. Her Grandma Alice used to lecture us girls on the ways of marriage saying, "Fred (Grandpa) and I never let the sun set on our anger!" Well, I hope this satisfies your "Pat fix" for the day. Aaron and Tim have each returned home. Late tomorrow Richard T arrives for a short visit. Love to all, Debra | |
