Yes, only a few days left until Pat MacLeod Schmidt carries the torch during the Olympic relay in Vail, Colorado.
Yes, thanks to the on going support of you and other friends and family, Pat was nominated to participate in the Olympic Torch Relay by both Chevrolet and Coke-Cola.
Wow, she needed to pick a team to represent, as they told her she could only run once, so she selected Coke-Cola.
What a “Privilege & Honor”, were Pat’s words as we entered I-25, leaving Casper Wyoming at the end of October. We had just completed a ½ day seminar with 40 other torchbearers from the Wyoming, South Dakota area and that is when it sunk in. Our summer had been so non-stop that it had really not set in yet what this torch relay was all about. Less than 30 days prior we had completed the great hike up the backside of Pikes Peak. So now we were ready to focus on staying in shape for the Olympic Torch Relay.
This new goal also coincided with ski season, and this year Pat wanted to ski blue runs. She has been working out at the gym 2-3 times a week in preparation
We rode up the Super Bee at Copper Mt. for the first time in several years the other day as we met up with one of Pat’s ski coaches, Moe Dixon. After lunch we were joined by Don Coleman for a run down Main Vein. Both Don & Moe were so impressed with Pat’s huge improvements from a year ago, that is from K & L (the never ever terrain) to the Supper Bee (the black & blue terrain) in one season, not too shabby.
It has always been said with a brain injury that, “time is the healer” and we are so thankful for the time and support we have. THANK YOU - THANK YOU!
Pat’s relay segment is February 1st at 5:39 pm in Lionshead. She will be running east from Forest Road (on S frontage Road) to short of the pedestrian bridge that cross I-70. Phil has posted a map; some pictures and the directions on Pat’s web page http:\\www.pattymactwister.org take a peek.
Pat’s mother passed on February 16th 2001, she had a
full life and this bout with cancer was to be her
last. There is no doubt that Pat is her Mother’s
daughter, and I give thanks for that everyday. It was
mid-November that Pat got frustrated for the second or
third time since the accident and the next day,
November 14, 2001 after reflecting overnight, she wrote
this in her journal:
Dad was very Patience,
Mother was very Persistent
I shall practice Both
Pat lives by example while overcoming adversity without bitterness or resentment. She: Perseveres with quite strength- without hesitation-not just to survive but to make the most of what you have, to enjoy life - Pat is surrounded with hope as she is- Patience and Persistent
Thanks for all your PLS
