Riding The Vertical Cornice

04/16/04 5 pm MDT

Erratic winds gust at the 11,100 ft elevation of the valley entrance. A smooth sail up the valley floor to the base of the White Wave near 12,000' follows quickly. With winds more from the West the UpSkiers ski down the bowl to the difficult vertical cornice of the East Wall. This cornice, a choice UpSki route, rises steeply to the 12,900+ foot ridgeline that holds the Loveland Ski Area's Northwest border adjacent to 13,010 foot Boundry Peak.

The map above shows the route of the high speed rides up the ridge and some locations from which pictures were snapped.Click on the word Photos to see more images.
